Greek Chefs Abroad vol 1

Irini Tzortzoglou

Irini Tzortzoglou is a celebrity chef, author, business woman and motivational speaker. Both Irini’s talent and fire for cooking has led to a breadth of challenging work projects – from appearing and winning MasterChef 2019 and shooting Instagram Live videos with Michelin Star celebrities, to lecturing at universities and authoring her own cookbooks.

Irini won UK Masterchef in 2019 by wowing the judges with her signature red mullet with squid risotto, griddled rosemary lamb chops, and handcrafted hazelnut baklava and fig leaf ice cream. That year, the champion chef also held a culinary retreat at a 5-star hotel in Crete her home.

In 2021, Irini opened the Greek Chefs Abroad Pop Up events at Nido and Elix bringing her passion for cooking local sourced food to the guests dishes, an amazing experience on local flavours!

Yiannis Kioroglou

Celebrated global chef, Yiannis Kioroglou, has worked in famous restaurants in Italy, Slovenia and Spain, and has staged multiple Michelin starred restaurants in Greece and across Europe. Since 2013 he holds the position of Head Chef at La Guérite Restaurant in Cannes alongside multiple Executive/Consultant Chef positions in renowned restaurants around the globe.

Kioroglou’s cooking style is inspired by traditional warm Greek hospitality (Philoxenia) coupled with the delicious ingredients found across the Mediterranean. This is what he calls “Meditegrecian cuisine” brought to Greek Chefs Abroad in Nido and Elix in September 21.

Our chefs

Originally from Corfu, Kapsokavadis has worked in Austria, France and UK including stints at the Michelin Starred Marcus Wareing at the Berkeley and Alain Ducasse at the Dorchester before taking on the role of Executive Chef at the MarBella Collection.

Alamanos is Head Chef at Nido having also previously worked with Marcus Wareing at the Berkeley in London.

Both were involved in the Greek Chefs Abroad 2021 series with a special event in August for the delight of our guests.

Sister property to Nido (and equally stylish), MarBella is on the shores of Agios Ioannis Peristeron, on the island’s south-east and a half an hour drive from Corfu Town. Landscaped gardens are set on the edge of the Ionian Sea, the hotel has its own beach and water park, and there are no fewer than 10 restaurants and bars to work through.

Red (online) on MarBella

A heavenly ocean-side retreat, with possibly the most beautiful views in Greece: If you possibly can, fly into Corfu, then take the hotel’s boat across the ocean to your final stop. You’ll feel entirely reset and ready to holiday by the time you arrive, having passed countless secret sandy shores, caves and inlets on your way, sea salt amassing to shimmer in your hair. Elix’s reception is then like a sort of celestial spa, with barn-high ceilings and windows that frame the infinity view, and even a soothing spa-like scent to cascade over your senses.

Conde Nast Traveller on Elix

A five star Ionian hideaway with A list appeal: Elix is a five-star hideaway in a six-star location. Blended unobtrusively into the densely wooded slopes above the brochure-worthy Karavostasi beach, this eco-conscious hive of pools, stone, wood and olive-tinted concrete offers low-key luxury amid sage-scented gardens and nature’s wild splendour.

The Times on Elix

If you are after a restorative coastal retreat, book a room at Nido Suite Hotel on the southeast coast of Corfu—it’s adults only (for guaranteed peace and quiet) and situated on a tree-clad hillside that slopes down to the idyllic beach. All suites benefit from the dreamy views of the twinkling Ionian sea, but, if you want total privacy, book the Junior Suite with its own pool.
